ALA Volunteer Needs:
 
Ø Serve adults 17 years old and up: pre-GED, GED, ESL, workplace literacy
Ø Locations: ALA office (460 N. 11th St., BR, LA 70802), Dream Center (4829 Winbourne Ave.), University Presbyterian Church on the LSU campus (3240 Dalrymple)
Ø Seeking:
o    One-on-one tutors for all 4 programs
·         work independently with a student and help them to reach their goals
·         hours and locations vary according to the student/tutor pair
·         commitment required: 2 hours a week for 6 months
·         mandatory 2 hour tutor orientation and 6 hour training workshop, as well as 6 additional hours of in-service training to be taken annually
 
o    Assistant Intake Coordinator
·         assist Gary, our Intake Coordinator, with record keeping and student testing
·         every other Wednesday, from 9am to 1pm
·         at the Dream Center, 4829 Winbourne Ave.
·         will be trained by Gary
 
o    Classroom Assistants
·         looking for 4 volunteers to assist instructors by helping students with their work
·         choose form Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday
·         shift is from 9am to 1pm
·         at the Dream Center, 4829 Winbourne Avenue
·         teaching experience desired but not necessary
 
o    Senior Scholar’s Classroom Assistant
·         assist 1 or 2 lower level readers in keeping up with the class, which consists of students who are between the ages of 50 and 80+
·         Thursday, 9am to 11am
·         Adult Literacy Advocates office, 460 N. 11th Street
·         teaching experience is not necessary
