Programs

Adult Literacy Advocates offers programs of instruction to adults (18 and over) at all levels:

Basic Reading Instruction - clients testing at a 4.0 grade level equivalent or below

Pre-HiSET Instruction - clients testing between a 4.0 and 8.0 grade level equivalent

HiSET Preparation - clients testing at an 8.0 grade level equivalent or above

Language Fluency - classes are offered at beginning, intermediate and advanced levels, depending on the client's level on our placement test

One-to-one Tutoring - for those clients who may not be able
to attend our regular classes due to extenuating circumstances such as employment schedules, child care, or transportation issues. A trained volunteer tutor will meet with the client and our Volunteer Coordinator to establish a mutually convenient meeting time and place for future instruction sessions.

Enrollment

To enroll in any of our programs, prospective clients must schedule an appointment in advance for an intake interview and placement test.

Scores on the placement test will determine which of our classes would be most beneficial for the client.  If a client is unable to attend the scheduled class, they will be referred to the Volunteer Coordinator for placement with a Volunteer Tutor for one-to-one instruction.
Clients may reach us by phone: 225-383-1090, or by email at
[email protected] to schedule intake appointments for any of our programs.
